Dr. William Elmore

Fayetteville and Dunn Optometrist - Dr. William ElmoreBorn in Erwin, NC to parents hailing from Cumberland and Sampson counties, Dr. Elmore, from the age of five, grew up in the Free Will Baptist Children’s Home in Middlesex, NC. Graduating from Southern Nash Senior High School in 1973, Dr. Elmore earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Appalachian State University in 1977. Having been designated a Distinguished Military Graduate, Dr. Elmore was appointed a commissioned officer in the Regular Army. Declining this high honor, Dr. Elmore secured an educational delay spending the next four years in Philadelphia, PA earning his professional degree in optometry.

Married to Victoria Ebner of West Chester, PA in 1981, Dr. Elmore traded in his civilian attire for service in the Army of the United States, first being assigned as a Staff Optometrist at Walson Army Community Hospital at Ft. Dix, NJ, before then heading out west to Raymond W. Bliss Army Community Hospital at Ft. Huachuca, AZ. After serving as the Chief of Optometry while at Ft. Huachuca, Dr. Elmore transferred his commission in 1986 to the United States Public Health Service living and working with the Zuni and Navajo Indians in the desert southwest. It was while living in Gallup, NM that the Elmores welcomed a wonderful daughter, Jessica (Now Dr. Jessie!), to their home.

Dr. Elmore left the Federal uniformed service in the fall of 1988 working for the Brookhaven, MS Laser Eye Center before returning to NC. Dr. Elmore has been located on Owen Drive, Fayetteville, since September 9, 1989. American Eye Care also has a satellite office in Dunn, NC. Concerned about the education and training of future optometrists, Dr. Elmore has served as Adjunct Professor of Clinical Instruction for optometry students from the Pennsylvania, Southern California, Houston and New England Colleges of Optometry. Engaged in the national affairs of the optometric profession, Dr. Elmore donated his professional time and expertise to the American Optometric Association’s Council on Clinical Optometric Care. He is a member of the NC State Optometric Society, the Southern Council of Optometrists and he has been for more than thirty years, a member of the American Optometric Association.

Dr. Elmore and Vickie have two sons, Joshua and Daniel. Josh is a USNA Graduate and currently serving in the Marine Corp. Daniel is currently studying to become a Doctor of Chiropractic at Logan University in St. Louis, MO. Members of Village Baptist Church for more than two decades, the Elmores have long been active members of our community. Dr. Elmore has no plans for early retirement and will continue to support youth athletic programs and participate in the civic and political affairs of Cumberland and surrounding counties for years to come.


Dr. Jessica Elmore

Dr. Jessica Elmore is a Fayetteville/Cumberland county native and graduate of The Fayetteville Academy, Class of 2005. Dr. Elmore was graduated from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2008, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. Following her undergraduate studies, Dr. Elmore attended The Southern College of Optometry (SCO) in Memphis, Tennessee, where she graduated in May 2013 after having earned her Doctor of Optometry degree.

During her time at SCO, Dr. Elmore traveled on mission trips to Guatemala and Honduras to provide vision care abroad with the Fellowship of Christian Optometrists. She was also involved in Remote Area Medical and Lions Club, working to provide vision care to the underserved within the USA. Dr. Elmore completed clinical rotations at Walter Reed National Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland and Columbus Eye Care in Whiteville, North Carolina. Dr. Elmore received scholarship and awards for clinical care while at SCO, and was named in Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

Since returning to North Carolina, Dr. Elmore splits time between our Dunn and Fayetteville locations and enjoys seeing patients from 6 months to a hundred. While providing primary eye care, she also enjoys specialty contact lens fits and managing dry eye patients.

When not in the clinic, Dr. Elmore enjoys serving in her community and spending time with her husband, and daughter Mary Alyne traveling. Dr. Elmore is a past President of the Dunn Rotary Club, a graduate of the Institute for Community Leadership for Cumberland County, and most recently named part of the elite 40 Under Forty of Cumberland County. She also volunteers providing free eye care to patients at The Care Clinic. She is a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fayetteville, NC. Dr. Elmore enjoys serving as a mentor to students interested in Health professions. She enjoys spending time with her husband and two children.
